Career counseling #15: Is omission a lie?

In my “career counseling” posts, I usually write things from my point of view: what to do and what not do.

But this time is a bit different. I want to ask you if you believe that leaving something out of your CV is actually a lie.

'Yes, I suppose certain narrow-minded people would call it a ‘pack of lies' - I prefer to think of it as creative up-selling.'

For example, I hold quite a few diplomas and have experience at various levels.

When applying for a job that requires a Masters, should I leave my PhD out of my CV?

When applying for a job that requires 1-3 years of experience, should I leave some prior experience out?

The reason that I am asking this is because, well, I can`t find a job. The answers that I get, either before or after an interview (if I get there), is that I am either underqualified or overqualified.

You`ve studied for about 20 years, out of which 8 years were in higher education.

You are continuously trying to learn new things ranging from ERP, TrackWise, GAMS, Photoshop and STATA to foreign languages and M&E frameworks. Continue reading “Letter to myself”

Let`s #HelpGreg get a job

I’ve written about Greg for more than a year now, about his education and experience, his advices to young people, but, mostly, about his struggles to find a new job.

He has been unemployed for almost a year and a half, even if he has a great resume and a lot of friends which could help him, but…

After weeks of debates, I have decided to ask you, my Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn friends and blog readers, for your help in getting Greg a job...or, at least, job interviews. So, if you know someone that might be interested in Greg, let me know.

Now, let’s go through Greg‘s resume. Continue reading “Let`s #HelpGreg get a job”
