I am Swiss national, but I am born in France and have lived for many, many years in various countries around the world (work reasons). After getting married 11 years ago, my husband and I tried to have a baby. Many attempts later (3 years later) and a (more permanent) move to France, we decided to get tested for fertility.
Our doctor gave us the news: my husband’s sperm wasn’t totally viable. Only about 50% of it was, how to say this, “normal“. The rest was kind of sluggish. IVF was presented as the only solution, beside adoption.
We had good jobs, private health insurance and more stuff like that. We decided to go for IVF. After about 2 years of trying to get the treatment to be paid by the state and our insurer, we decided we will pay for it ourselves. It was 15,000 Euros.
3 cycles later, 11 viable embryos and no luck, we went with adoption. We now have a beautiful little girl who we cherish.
IVF is a good option, we highly recommend it. But don’t forget, there are many other options out there.
